HR ADVISOR - Hexham 

22.5 HOURS PER WEEK

FTE £30,000 - 31,500 (PRO RATA £18,000 - £18,900)

Job Purpose: 

The role will involve supporting and advising Service Managers on HR activities including disciplinary, grievance, absence management, recruitment and TUPE. 

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities: 

Managing organisational recruitment 

  • Co-ordinating recruitment processes and campaigns. 

  • Supporting Service Managers with selection processes. 

  • Conducting pre-employment checks. 

  • Co-ordinating mandatory induction and training. 

Co-ordinating terms and conditions of employment for staff 

  • Issuing contractual paperwork including terms of employment, worker agreements, change letters. 

  • Calculating annual leave entitlement for new starters and additional staff when changes in hour occur. 

 

Updating and maintaining HR information systems 

  • Supporting Service Managers and staff to utilise the online system PeopleHR. ​

  • Ensuring systems are maintained in relation to starters and leavers. 

  • Ensuring that all HR documents and tools are aligned to legislation and are updated when changes occur. 

  • Performing general HR administration. 

 

Co-ordinating Staff Development 

  • Supporting the management team with the development of an annual learning needs assessment and organisational training plan. 

  • Supporting Service Managers with the co-ordination of e-learning and classroom based training. 

  • Responsibility for the management of the organisational training matrix. 

 

Supporting Service Managers with issues related to workplace relations and performance management. 

  • Supporting and attending if required formal meetings such as disciplinary and grievance hearings. 

  • Ensuring that detailed records and reports are kept in compliance with GDPR. 

  • Monitoring staff sickness levels and support Service Managers to implement strategies to manage this.  

 

Senior Management Responsibilities 

  • Support the senior management team with strategic planning and development. 

  • Support with the development of organisational policies and procedures. 

  • Prepare reports and statistical information for the Board of Trustees. 

  • Attend and contribute to board meetings when required. 

  • Other duties as required by business need.

Female Support Worker - Hexham 

In this role you’ll support two women who lead a varied and active life. They enjoy art and crafts, music, sport activities, dancing, singing and socialising in their local community. You’ll support them in all aspects of their day-to-day living, promoting independence, to enable them to live as independently as possible. The sorts of activities you will get involved in include:

  • Attending activities outside the home including arts and crafts, music classes, sporting activities, visits to the cinema and enjoying the great outdoors.

  • Supervising, educating and supporting with activities at home including cooking, cleaning, personal care and daily living tasks.

  • Supporting with health and wellbeing including administration of medicine, booking and going to medical appointments, supporting with healthy eating and being active.

The role is varied and rewarding, and you will have the support of your line manager and colleagues who work in the same service to support you.

Role details:

  • Average 31 - 39 hours per week plus sleep-ins

  • 3 week rotating shift pattern including some evenings and weekends

  • A minimum of one weekend in 3 off .

In this role you’ll support people with all aspects of their day-to-day living, promoting independence, to enable the people we support to live as independently as possible.

This role is a relief/bank role so you can choose the hours to fit around your other commitments, whether that be work, study, childcare or anything else. Our relief team get to work in a number of different services providing cover for holidays, sickness and gaps in staffing.

ISL Manager Role Description

Job Purpose:

  • To manage the allocated Independent Supported Living services on a day to day basis.

  • To ensure the support delivered within the services is person centred and that the people we support have choices and opportunities to ensure they are able to live as full a life as possible.

  • To provide line management support to front line support workers.

  • To ensure that all processes, protocols and paperwork are compliant to CQC requirements and delivered to the highest standard.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Service Delivery

  • To ensure that the people who we support have up to date care plans that effectively meet their needs.

  • Meet regularly with people we support to ensure their service is safe, caring, responsive, effective and well-led.

  • Lead on and authorise all risk assessment processes within the ISL services.

  • Support with Safeguarding processes including investigation, reporting and subsequent actions / recommendations as required.

  • Collate and review critical incident processes. Work with the ISL management team to identify trends, triggers and implement action plans / strategies as required.

  • Collate and review medication error processes. Work with the ISL management team to identify trends, triggers and implement action plans / strategies as required.

  • Carry out regular medication distribution observations and provide guidance and improvement plans to Support Workers as required.

  • Liaise with Social Workers, Care Managers, family members regarding incidents and medication errors when required.

  • Collate, review and determine any actions from accident and health and safety reports.

  • Ensure that health and safety assessments are actioned and reviewed regularly within the ISL services.

  • Complete monthly compliance audits on service paperwork and protocols, determine action and development plans if required.

  • Support with the development, implementation and review of the ISL service outcomes framework.

  • Support front line staff and people we support to identify, implement and review placements and day service activities.

  • Co-ordinate holidays for people we support.

  • Hold regular team meetings with service staff, ensuring stakeholders and professionals are included when necessary.

Staffing & HR

  • Provide line management to Support Workers.

  • Support with the recruitment of new Support Workers within the ISL service.

  • Support with the induction of Support Workers including actioning probationary reviews and observations.

  • Support staff by providing regular one to one supervisions and appraisals.

  • Ensure that Support Workers receive adequate training and development.

  • Support with the development and co-ordination of the organisational training plan.

  • Ensure that service rotas are accurate and that appropriate cover is in place when required.

  • Support with the management of staff sickness.

  • Lead on and authorise all risk assessment processes within the ISL services. Support with the monitoring of the organisational risk register as part of the management team.

  • Part of the on-call team, therefore working on a rota basis to provide out of office hours support to Support Workers.

  • Support with the implementation of new services as required.

Finance

  • Lead on in-service financial monitoring of allocated ISL services.

  • Manage petty cash distribution to allocated ISL services.

Strategic / Governance

  • Build and nurture partnerships with relevant professionals, organisations, families, health professionals and other stakeholders to ensure the support each individual receives is holistic.

  • Contribute as part of the management team to raising awareness and the profile of Natural Ability by supporting with the development of social media, website and press engagement.

  • Support with the development and implementation of ISL strategic objectives

  • Support with the receipt of any organisational complaints, grievance or whistleblowing issues where appropriate.

  • Support with the collation, analysis and any subsequent actions plan derived from annual staff and stakeholder evaluation.

  • Prepare service reports as requested by appropriate external stakeholders.

  • Contribute to the development and review of organisational policies and procedures. Ensure that all Support Workers have a strong understanding of policies.

  • Ensure that GDPR processes for the ISL services are adhered to.

Other Duties

  • Undertake any necessary training, as appropriate to the role.

  • Work to Natural Ability Policies and Procedures.

  • Ensure that Health and Safety and all other Policies and Procedures are followed.

  • Develop and promote the inclusion of people with disabilities.

  • Undertake any other reasonable duties as required.

Volunteer Trustee (unpaid role)

We are seeking dynamic trustees who have the skills to help Natural Ability to grow its services for children and adults with learning difficulties in the North East. We are looking for individuals to join our Board who are passionate about offering choices, opportunities and enabling people with learning difficulties to live safe and independent lives across the region.

The main priorities of our trustees are to support the work of Natural Ability through strong strategic vision and leadership, oversee risk and compliance requirements, assist to raise the profile of the organisation and to maximise the organisation’s impact on the people it supports.

We are looking for individuals that have a strong interest in promoting opportunities and choice for people with learning difficulties and who will be committed to the ethos and values of the organisation. We are actively seeking candidates that have experience of finance and marketing and will value candidates that have previous experience in governance.

Candidates will be required to attend monthly Board meetings and may be required to support at other times in relation to specific events or marketing opportunities.

The post of Trustee is unpaid, however, all reasonable expenses are reimbursed.
