quiz night

Quiz nights are an affordable and entertaining way to raise funds while bringing family and friends together.

Check out our top tips for hosting a successful quiz night:

Choose a date and venue

Many venues may offer their space for free or at a discounted rate if you mention it’s for a charity event. Pubs are a great starting point, as they often host quiz nights already. Other fantastic options include local community centers, sports halls, and church halls.

Estimate how many people are likely to attend your quiz night and plan accordingly. Make sure there's enough space for all attendees, as well as room for essentials like food tables, speakers, and any other equipment you'll need.

Promote your quiz night

Encourage friends, family, and colleagues to get involved and help spread the word about your event. Make the most of social media to promote your event! Create a Facebook event page and be sure to tag Natural Ability so we can follow along and show our thanks. Instagram is another great platform for quickly sharing your event details and linking to your online fundraising page. Reach out to your local newspaper and radio station to promote your fundraiser.

Set your questions

Create a mix of easy and challenging questions to ensure everyone feels included and engaged. Add variety by setting a theme for each round, such as general knowledge, film and TV, music, sports, pop culture, current affairs, history, or geography. Spice things up with different question styles to keep it exciting! Try incorporating picture rounds, riddles, anagrams, ‘name the song,’ ‘guess the logo,’ or even ‘guess the celebrity baby photo'.

Decide on your prizes

Kick things off by asking friends and family if they’re willing to donate a prize or if they know someone who might be able to help. Reach out to local businesses—like shops, salons, pubs, and restaurants—for prize donations. These could include physical items, vouchers, or unique experiences, such as a cooking class or a hair treatment.

Sell tickets
Set an entry fee of £5 or £10. You could also give people the option to donate extra if they like.

bake sale

Baking something delicious for others is always a joy, but it’s even better when your efforts help raise money for a great cause. Hosting a charity bake sale is a fun and rewarding way to make a difference—and we’re here to help you make it a success!

Here’s everything you need to know, from planning the event to collecting donations:

Choose the Right Time and Place

Selecting the best location and timing is key. If your bake sale is open to the public, aim for a busy spot like a shopping center, library, or bustling high street where foot traffic is high. If you’re hosting for a specific group (e.g., your office or a school), pick a time and place that’s convenient for everyone, such as lunchtime or a break room.

Spread the Word

Promotion is crucial for a successful event. Once you’ve set a date, advertise early! Share posters, send out email invitations, and use social media to generate buzz.

Get a Team of Bakers on Board

Baking is more fun with friends! Invite colleagues, family, or community members to contribute baked goods for the sale. â€‹

Set Prices and Offer Flexible Payment Options

Decide how much to charge per item. Keep pricing simple, like £1 per cupcake or £2 for a slice of cake, so it’s easy for buyers to pay. In addition to collecting cash, consider setting up an online fundraising page, like JustGiving, so attendees can donate with their cards or smartphones.

Seek Local Donations

Reach out to local businesses and bakeries to see if they’d like to contribute baked goods or supplies.

Practice Food Safety and Label Allergens

Ensure proper food hygiene by washing hands, using clean equipment, and keeping baked goods covered. Clearly label each item with any allergens (e.g., nuts, dairy, gluten) to make your bake sale safe and inclusive for everyone.

Pay In Your Donations

If you’ve used an online fundraising page, donations will be transferred automatically. For cash collected at the event, check the instructions on our Donations page to send in your contribution securely.

fitness challenge

Organising your own personal challenge or sporting event can be incredibly rewarding. Whether it’s an epic solo adventure, a group event, or a community activity, there’s a challenge for everyone—regardless of age, ability, or interests. Not only will you achieve something amazing, but you’ll also help make a real impact.

Here’s a guide to sponsored fitness and sporting challenges to inspire you:

Walking Challenges

A walking challenge is a fantastic way to stay active, enjoy nature, and raise funds to support adults with learning disabilities. You could tackle a famous hiking trail, plan a scenic local walk, or set a daily step goal to keep you motivated.

Cycling Challenges

From conquering a tough mountain pass to completing a multi-day endurance ride, cycling is a versatile and exhilarating challenge. You could also organise a group ride with friends or host a fun cycling relay event. The possibilities are endless, whether you’re a casual rider or an avid cyclist.

Swimming Challenges

If you’re a water enthusiast, a swim challenge could be perfect for you. Whether it’s open water swimming, a long-distance pool swim, or a relay with friends, the sense of accomplishment—and that post-swim glow—makes it all worthwhile.

Running Challenges

Running challenges offer something for everyone. Whether you’re signing up for a big event like the Great North Run, creating your own local run, or even tackling Couch to 5K, every step counts. Want an extra twist? Try setting a 40-day running goal or adding costumes to your event to draw more attention and raise funds.

Looking for a challenge that’s out of the ordinary? Consider skydiving, bungee jumping, or even swimming with sharks. Extreme challenges not only push your limits but also inspire others to support your efforts.
